Standing with Cuban Freedom
To those concerned about the freedom of the Cuban people,
Cubans have courageously taken to the streets of the Marxist-controlled island, demanding their long-overdue freedom on a scale not witnessed in decades. These protests spread so rapidly that the Communist Party’s censors struggled to grasp the magnitude of the uprising. Before the Cuban government shut down internet access, tens of thousands of simultaneous online broadcasts showcased the nationwide desire for regime change. Cuban protestors yearn for a free nation, one that allows them to engage in essential trade, create wealth, and build a prosperous society free from the grip of central planners who have consistently failed them.
In solidarity, the Cuban exile community in Miami and across Florida has launched impassioned demonstrations, appealing for intervention from the U.S. government. President Biden, following in the footsteps of his predecessor who normalized relations with the dictatorship, is expected to announce a lifting of the U.S. embargo. There is also concern about the possibility of another Mariel-style exodus that could result in an influx of dissidents, ultimately bolstering the Havana regime. Since the U.S. betrayed the Cuban exiles during the Bay of Pigs invasion over six decades ago, the U.S. government has maintained a controlled-trade program involving food, medicine, and technology, enabling the Cuban leadership to siphon wealth into banks and real estate in Miami and beyond.
The true solution to ending the dictatorship may well lie in the hands of an all-volunteer group of Cuban exiles and their allies, supporting their compatriots independently, without expecting assistance from the U.S. government. It is feared that relying on the U.S. government may inadvertently lead to another 60 years of Marxist control, rather than the establishment of a free Cuba.
Therefore,
We, the Libertarian Party of Miami-Dade County, endorse the principles of self-determination for all people and the right to self-defense for ourselves, our families, and our neighbors. We firmly resolve:
- To acknowledge that Cuba’s Communist Party-led government is violently oppressing its citizens, particularly during the ongoing protests;
- To recognize that the authority of the Cuban regime, like that of any government, is derived from the consent of the governed—the Cuban people themselves;
- To condemn the use of violence by the Cuban government to maintain its authority, which starkly illustrates the illegitimacy of the regime; and
- To affirm that the Cuban people, with the right to self-determination, have resoundingly rejected the Communist Party-led government and have urgently sought support from outside the nation.
We also acknowledge that many friends and family members of Cubans, both in Miami and elsewhere outside the island, possess the individual right to intervene as they see fit to safeguard life and liberty in Cuba. Such actions are akin to the spirit of America’s Founding Fathers, who pledged their lives, fortunes, and sacred honor for a free and prosperous United States of America.
To this end,
- We reject any notion that these individuals require permission or support from the United States government or any state entity to act;
- We emphasize that any delay in taking action could harm the burgeoning, popular movement.
Therefore,
We wholeheartedly support the right of free people in Cuba and elsewhere to determine the nature of their government and affirm their individual responsibility to protect life and liberty wherever they are compelled to do so.

Libertarian Party of Miami-Dade County
