Governor Gary Johnson of New Mexico ran for President as the Libertarian Party nominee. With his running mate, Judge Jim Gray, they earned the largest amount of votes in the party’s history.
The Libertarian Party of Miami-Dade County affiliates to help Governor Gary Johnson’s campaign in South Florida. Dozens of activists helped Johnson to earn a total of 2,300 votes for the Libertarian ticket candidate in Miami-Dade County.
The Libertarian Party earned its first Miami-Dade County electoral victory when its “Anti-STD” campaign earned 66%, helping defeat a Special Taxing District (STD) proposal in Redlands, Florida. This makes it the first Special Taxing District defeated in a decade.
In June, Gary Gerstein became the party’s first elected official after running unopposed for the Fisher Island Community Council. Adrian Wyllie, the Libertarian nominee for Governor of Florida, earned 4% of the statewide vote and earned 7,400 votes in Miami-Dade County.
Libertarian Attorney General candidate earned 9,700 votes, the largest vote share of any Libertarian in Miami-Dade County.
The Libertarian Party of Miami-Dade County shuffles its leadership. It organizes itself into a precinct-level organization, with leaders elected at the precinct-level by registered Libertarians in each precinct.
Chairman Robert Fernandez leads the best fundraising campaign year-to-date. He recruited activists from Hialeah, Miami, Homestead, Kendall, and other cities throughout South Florida.
The party’s first headquarters opened in Brickell, the heart of Miami’s financial district. From there, the party created Operation: CDD Takeover. It aimed to place Libertarians on as many elected Special Taxing District boards as possible.
In the first year, the Operation added three new Libertarian elected officials in North Central, Doral, and West Kendall.
In April, the Libertarian Party of Miami-Dade County held a local convention hosting a presidential debate.
In May, Governor Gary Johnson became the Libertarian Party’s presidential nominee. Joined by Governor Bill Weld of Massachusetts as his running mate, they received over 13,000 votes in Miami-Dade County.
Miami-Dade County elected four new Libertarian officials in North Central, South Bay, Doral, and West Kendall.
In April, the Libertarian Party of Miami-Dade elected Marialexandra Garcia as Chairwoman and a board of 35 Precinct Delegates.
By November, the Libertarian Party of Miami-Dade County geared up its electoral focus, announcing four candidates, one of whom won election to the Coconut Grove Village Council.
The South Dade Soil and Water Conservation District is targeted ahead of the 2018 Midterms. 2017 becomes the highest fundraising year for the affiliate.

Dr. Jo Jorgenson and Spike Cohen ran for President and Vice President respectively as the Libertarian Party nominees, pulling in .7% of the vote in Miami-Dade County.

Miami’s own, LPMD Treasurer Hector Roos, runs for Governor against Ron Desantis, giving libertarians a third option in the state of Florida.
In January, the Libertarian Party of Miami-Dade elected Hector Roos (Chair), Lisa Gansky (Vice Chair), and Eric Moore (Secretary/Treasurer). The new excom has a vision to focus on community development, spreading the libertarian philosophy to more folks throughout the county.
