The Libertarian Party of Miami-Dade Calls Out Miami-Dade Animal Services for Unlawful Confiscation of Precious
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Miami, FL, August 10, 2023 – The Libertarian Party of Miami-Dade (LPMD) is taking a stand against the unjust actions of the Miami-Dade Animal Services in their recent confiscation of Precious, a beloved 10-year-old family dog. The situation surrounding Precious has shocked the community and highlighted a glaring violation of due process and individual rights.

In February, a regrettable accident occurred when Precious, owned by Scott Davis, bit a young boy riding his bike near the Davis property. Taking responsibility, Scott offered to cover all medical expenses for the boy and complied with the county’s mandatory quarantine for Precious. However, the actions of Miami-Dade Animal Services following this incident have spiraled into an alarming display of power.
Ignoring the principles of justice and transparency, Miami-Dade Animal Services conducted a shadow hearing, presenting only one side of the story and resulting in court orders that were riddled with factual errors and hearsay. The agency demonstrated a disregard for the Davis family’s right to a fair hearing and an opportunity to present their side of the story.
“The confiscation of Precious and the subsequent cover up by the Miami-Dade Animal Services are a clear violation of individual rights and due process,” stated David Crespo, a Precinct Delegate for the Libertarian Party of Miami-Dade.” The government’s duty is to protect the rights of its citizens, not trample upon them, particularly when the situation was already peacefully resolved. This serves as a stark reminder of the potential abuse when unchecked power is exercised.”
Remarkably, after fervent advocacy and legal efforts, a court ruled that the confiscation of Precious was illegal and ordered her return to Scott Davis. Despite this victory for justice, the Miami-Dade Animal Services’s subsequent actions to appeal the decision cast a shadow over their intentions.
LPMD strongly urges the judge overseeing this case to hold the Miami-Dade Animal Services in contempt of court for their actions in the illegal confiscation of Precious. The continued attempts to delay and subvert justice in this matter undermine the trust between citizens and the agencies entrusted to protect their rights.
“The Libertarian Party of Miami-Dade calls upon the judiciary to ensure that the rights of individuals are upheld and that government agencies are held accountable for their actions,” said Crespo. “We stand united in our demand for justice for Precious, for the Davis family, and for all individuals who face violations of their rights by those in positions of authority.”
LPMD will continue to monitor the developments in this case and advocate for the protection of individual rights and due process within the Miami-Dade community.
