Libertarian Party of Miami-Dade Leads Environmental Change Through Action, Collects Nearly 200 lbs of Garbage from Biscayne Bay
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Miami-Dade, FL – November 13, 2023 – The Libertarian Party of Miami-Dade (LPMD) successfully concluded a volunteer cleanup initiative on Biscayne Bay, demonstrating the power of community action in environmental conservation. On Sunday, November 12, 2023, a dedicated team of volunteers, including members of the LPMD and local residents, gathered for a paddle boarding and kayaking event, which resulted in the collection of just shy of 200 lbs of garbage from the bay.
The event, organized by the LPMD, emphasized the effectiveness of voluntarism over government regulation in addressing environmental issues. “Our community showed immense dedication and spirit in protecting Biscayne Bay, one of our most cherished natural treasures,” said Lisa Gansky, Vice Chair of the LPMD. “This goes to show that voluntary efforts can create significant impact without the need for heavy-handed government intervention.”
Hector Roos, Chair of the LPMD added, “Taxes and regulation don’t make people suddenly care about the trash they leave behind. Instead, those who grew up with the ecological treasure we have in Biscayne Bay – who are concerned about its future – are the best people to take care of it.”
The LPMD extends its heartfelt gratitude to brothers Daniel and Ricardo Luces and the team at Biscayne Bay Paddle Boards & Kayaks for their partnership and support in making this event a resounding success. Their commitment to the local environment and willingness to facilitate such an important initiative was instrumental in the day’s achievements.
“Biscayne Bay is blessed with the presence of dolphins, manatees, and an array of amazing marine life. It’s essential that we protect our waters and these beautiful creatures,” stated Daniel Luces. “We wholeheartedly encourage and commend groups interested in participating in future cleanup efforts. To support voluntary endeavors, we’re pleased to offer discounted rates to those who want to join us in safeguarding our environment.”
In light of the event’s success, the LPMD urges State Senator Ileana Garcia to consider the potential of voluntarism and community-led initiatives. The party encourages the Senator to explore the organization of monthly or even weekly cleanup events, leveraging the power of the community to foster environmental stewardship and positive change.
“We believe that true conservation comes from the ground up,” Gansky added. “We invite our lawmakers, including Senator Garcia, to witness the power of community action firsthand and join us in future events.”
The LPMD is committed to leading by example in the realm of environmental responsibility and hopes this event serves as a catalyst for further voluntary conservation efforts across Miami-Dade and beyond.
The Libertarian Party of Miami-Dade is proud of the difference made and is looking forward to organizing more such events to continuously improve and protect our environment.
