Marijuana Legalization: A Complex Web of Federal and State Politics

The Trump administration drops Obama-era easing of marijuana prosecutions. This will result in the Federal Government actively going after states where marijuana is legal. "The action by Attorney General Jeff Sessions could have damaging consequences for the burgeoning marijuana industry in the six states including California and Colorado that have legalized the drug for recreational use, plus dozens of others that permit medicinal use." 1 The Republican Party runs on the platform of small government and state's rights, yet this goes against both of those issues. On one hand, big brother is telling law abiding citizens what they can and cannot ingest. On the other, it is penalizing states over decisions its citizens made for themselves.
